Statistics show that around 28 different skin care products are consumed per person per year in Spain alone, and in 2021 there was an 11.71% increase in production in the skin care market. From this data, the following questions arose: How many of these products are of natural origin? Are those of natural origin vegan and ecological? Does this production affect the environment? How many chemicals do they contain and how healthy are they for our skin?
From this problem arises the idea of a really ecological concept, vegan, free of parabens and phthalates, as well as unnecessary fragrances. A product that will guarantee a healthy skin. So we in TH Cosmetics asked ourselves: what if we combine this concept and the excellent properties of CBD and create a line, suitable for all skin types, which is sustainable and environmentally friendly?
In recent years we have been seeing a “Boom” in organic cosmetics, where the trend is to consume “ecological” products; but do we really know the difference between ORGANIC, VEGAN AND NATURAL? I think at this point it is important to clarify these concepts so that the idea of my project becomes clearer and establishes a product differentiation when compared to the existing lines in the market and the one I want to create.
What does ecological mean?
Eco, Bio and Organic: these are terms used in different geographical areas to refer to ingredients or products from organic agriculture, which is responsible for producing food that respects the environment and preserves the fertility of the land through the proper use of natural resources. This includes avoiding the use of pesticides and pesticides, not producing transgenics, promoting biodiversity or not using intensive farming methods.
What does Vegan mean?
Vegan means that it does not use ingredients of animal origin. A product can be natural but may have honey (not vegan) or on the contrary be totally vegan but full of synthetic ingredients.
What does natural mean? What is the meaning of natural cosmetics?
There is no rule that defines exactly what is and what is not natural cosmetics. In 2016 the international standard ISO 16128 ‘Guide to technical definitions for natural ingredients and products” was published, but actually they are just a set of guidelines that includes best practices
Natural cosmetics are those that use ingredients of natural, plant, animal or mineral origin to create effective formulas that are free of artificial chemicals. These ingredients can be vitamins, essential oils, aloe vera, beeswax, clay, etc. Natural cosmetics are not tested on animals and respect the environment.
With a clear idea of the different concepts, we can understand that a product can have a high percentage of natural products and not be vegan or organic. The idea of my project is that we should create a unique product line with a high percentage of organic CBD and totally vegan.
